Employer Sponsored Visa categories include the following:

  • Temporary Work (Skilled) Visas (visa subclass 457) – This visa is used by Australia and overseas employers to sponsor overseas workers to work in Australia on a temporary basis to fill nominated skilled positions.  Overseas workers to be employed for a period of up to 4 years on the visa.
  • The Employer Nomination Scheme (visa subclass 186) – This visa is for Australian employers to nominate employees (who are either highly skilled workers from overseas or highly skilled temporary residents currently in Australia) for a permanent visa to work in Australia.
  • Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (visa subclass 187) – This visa is for employers to nominate staff from overseas or temporary residents currently in Australia for skilled positions in regional Australia where there is a shortage of labour in the local labour market. Under the RSMS, employers are able to nominate staff from overseas or temporary residents currently in Australia to fill full-time, permanent vacancies.
